The site comprised a recently partially cleared woodland which had seen use as a former paintball centre and plantation. This was a large-scale housing development consisting of 300 new dwellings and a community woodland park, which necessitated extensive preparatory works and a detailed ground investigation.
A geotechnical investigation was required to provide an interpretation of ground conditions with respect to foundations, pavements, soakaways, concrete specification, and excavations. To satisfy the needs of the ground investigation an extensive intrusive investigation was carried out, this included the sinking of Dynamic (windowless) Sampler boreholes, Super Heavy Dynamic Probing (SHDP), mechanically excavated Trial Pits, BRE365 soakage testing, and standpipe installations for a series of return monitoring visits.
