GEOTECHNICAL or GEO-ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST - BURGESS HILL

We are looking to recruit a Geotechnical or Geo-environmental Engineer, ideally with 2-5 years experience, to be based out of our head office in West Sussex. The role would suit a graduate geologist, engineering geologist, geotechnical engineer, civil engineer, environmental scientist or similar cognate subject.

We are a diverse multidisciplinary team engaged on an interesting and varied range of ground investigation projects in the residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructure sectors. We provide a combination of factual and interpretive reports for a range of clients. Our projects are primarily based in the UK, and range in size from the most basic service for homeowners up to major ground investigation contracts such as Crossrail and HS2. We operate an in-house laboratory and our own fleet of drilling rigs. We endeavour to innovate and be leaders in our industry.

In geotechnical projects, we typically provide design parameters and advice for foundation design, basement construction, earthworks, and to assess issues such as subsidence and slope stability. In contaminated land projects, we routinely carry out GQRA and DQRA for soils, groundwater and ground gasses, and we supervise remediation projects and provide verification reports.

Initially the role will provide comprehensive training and broad experience in every aspect of the ground investigation process, including the preparation of desk studies, planning and supervising fieldwork, logging rock and soil cores, preparing testing schedules, gas and groundwater monitoring, preparation of factual data, and factual report writing. We will offer a combination of formal training and on-the-job experience. We will actively support candidates who want to pursue Charted status.

With more experience you will in due course have the opportunity to run larger or more complex ground investigation contracts on site, and liaise more directly with clients and regulators. At Senior level you will have the opportunity to manage your own small team of engineers, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the client’s requirements. You will be involved with interpretive report writing and be able to review the work of others ready for authorisation and issue. Other opportunities will include representing the company at seminars and events, developing in-house systems, and taking responsibility for different areas of work.

With strong interpersonal skills and self-confidence, you should have an eye for detail, enjoy seeking solutions to technical challenges, and have an all-round flair and passion for your profession. You will be required to work on your own initiative and take responsibility for delegated tasks, and be committed to quality and safety.

Ground investigation is an interesting and rewarding career in the long term, and it is an exciting time to join our business as we look to expand and build on our excellent reputation for quality and client focus. As a growing SME, we offer the opportunity to experience all aspects of the business, and thus develop your career in a rounded way. There are significant future opportunities for the right candidate to develop with the company, to become a team leader and even set-up a future regional office.

A full, clean driving licence is essential, and applicants must be eligible to work in the UK. It is a mandatory requirement of the role to pass basic safety training on joining the business, and full training is given. Due to the nature of the role candidates are required to offer a degree of flexibility in working hours and occasional travel away from home.

A competitive remuneration package will be offered, in the range of £25-£32K per annum (depending on qualifications and experience). The role is based on a 37.5hr working week, with a flexible working pattern, 23 days paid holiday (plus bank holidays), a workplace pension, paid membership of a professional institution, and other benefits.

Applicants should send a full CV with a brief covering email to jobs@landscience.co.uk .
